The beautiful and historic Steamboat Warehouse in Washington was the setting for the 2nd annual Bras on the Bayou Fundraiser for the Evangeline Parish Relay For Life.
This private event was held on October 5, 2015 with a sold out attendance of 100 people. Evangeline Parish Relay For Life Chairwoman, Connie Lamke expressed her thanks and appreciation to all those who attended.
“I couldn’t possibly name everyone but I would like to start off by thanking the guests who made this event such a success,” Lamke said. “Everyone participated and joined in the festivities, this event raised over $5,000.00 which is huge!”
Mrs. Lamke went on to say that the local businesses that donated items for the silent auction or made a monetary donation to this event also played a large part in the fundraising. Those businesses-individuals included: Teet’s Food Store, Encana Corporation, Advanced Communications, Country Cove, Total Image, UL Kinesiology Department, Cottage Couture, Meme’s Closet, Chef Maureen Little and Chef Jason Huguet.
Lamke also thanked Uptown Cake Company for their donation of the ribbon cake.
The committee will add all the donors and sponsors on the Relay For Life of Evangeline Parish Facebook page, where you can also check out photos from the event.
Along with the silent auction there was a wine grab, bra decorating contest and bra fashion show. The bra fashion show consisted of male volunteers from the event wearing the decorated bras that were submitted for the contest. The men were great sports and danced for tips to raise money for cancer research.
The evening ended with the crowning of Bra’s on the Bayou’s Queen TaTa. Queen TaTa was chosen by the attendees who voted for the people’s choice division of the bra contest. This year’s winner and the Evangeline Parish Relay For Life Queen TaTa is Randy Deshotel. Mr. Deshotel is a huge supporter of the Evangeline Parish Relay For Life and as of this event he is the newest committee member.
“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Deshotel to the committee and we already know that his contributions and ideas will benefit many,” Lamke said.
The Bras on the Bayou is a fundraiser that was started by team members from Cops For a Cure and Rhinestones For a Cure. The Evangeline Parish Relay For Life Committee would like to thank those who participated for their generosity and support.
“We can’t wait until the next Bras on the Bayou event, the planning has already begun.” Lamke said, “Who knows what surprises we will have in store next year, for our guests!”
