On Thursday, Judge Chuck West sentenced Anthony Jack to serve a total of seven years in prison for aggravated assault and resisting an officer through force or violence.
The 24-year-old was convicted of these crimes by an Evangeline Parish jury on April 4, 2017.
His conviction is the result of an arrest that occurred back in January of 2014 when Deputy Joshua Uhlman with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a complaint on Robert F. Kennedy Avenue in Ville Platte.
According to a press release issued by the Evangeline Parish District Attorney’s Office in April, “Upon arrival and further investigations Deputy Uhlman approached Mr. Jack to question him, at which point Mr. Jack threatened the officer and then fled on foot.”
A pursuit by the EPSO ultimately led to the apprehension and arrest of Jack.
For resisting an officer through force or violence, West sentenced the 24-year-old to the maximum allowable sentence by law for this crime, which is three years. Jack will also be required to pay a fine of $1,500 for this charge.
For the aggravated battery conviction, Jack was sentenced to seven years at hard labor, and he will also have to pay a $2,500 fine.
Jack will serve his sentences concurrently, or at the same time, which means he will serve a total of seven years in prison.
