Republican Congressman from Louisiana Steve Scalise was released from intensive care after being shot at a baseball practice on June 14.
According to WAFB out of Baton Rouge, MedStar Washington Hospital issued the following statement on Scalise’s condition: “Congressman Steve Scalise’s continued good progress allowed him to be transferred out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Thursday (June 22). He remains in fair condition as he continues to an extended period of healing and rehabilitation.”
Scalise, who serves as House Majority Whip, is the third top Republican on Capitol Hill. He sustained a single gun shot wound to the left hip. According to WAFB, “the round fragmented and caused significant damage to bones, internal organs, and blood vessels.”
The event led LSU to flood Washington with shirts, hats, and other items to be worn by congressmen from both sides of the aisle during the baseball game in support of Scalise.
