For those local residents that are still in need of help due to the destruction caused by the recent historic flooding that occurred throughout the region, help will be available this coming week in the village of Mamou.
The Evangeline Parish Disaster Food Stamps Registration will be set up at the Mamou Skating Rink from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
For all those people who pre-registered for disaster food stamps at the Ville Platte Civic Center and online you must still go register in Mamou this coming week.
“The state is officially registering everyone,” Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine said. “The skating rink in Mamou is the official designated emergency site. That’s why it is now over there. Based on the recommendations of the state, we pre-registered everyone in the system at the Ville Platte Civic Center. Now those people will just need to bring their user name and password and the state will help them.”
For those residents needing disaster food stamps with last names starting with A through F, they will be able to register on Tuesday, September 6th. Those individuals with last names that start with G through N can do so on Wednesday, September 7th and then those O through Z residents can sign up on Thursday, September 8th.
Then on Friday, September 9th, residents with last names beginning with A through K can register. Then on Saturday, September 10th, residents with last names starting with L through Z can register.
For anyone still interested in helping out flood victims, Vidrine says they can still make monetary donations to the City of Ville Platte Relief Fund. Checks, made payable to City of Ville Platte Relief Fund, can either be dropped off at City Hall or mailed to City of Ville Platte, P.O. Box 390, Ville Platte, LA 70586.
“The funds will take care of our residents’ immediate needs, until FEMA and insurance comes,” Vidrine said.
