Brad Colby Wedlock died in a crash in Lafayette on Monday afternoon.
Lafayette Police Department spokesman Cpl. Karl Ratcliff told media outlets that the 28-year-old Wedlock was fatally injured after his vehicle was struck from behind at the intersection of Congress Street and Guilbeau Road shortly before 1:45 p.m. Monday.
Investigators believe that excessive speed was a factor. Two other individuals involved were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries. Ratcliff further stated that four vehicles were involved in the crash, which also resulted in Wedlock’s car catching fire which had to be extinguished by first responders.
The crash remains under investigation.
Wedlock was a 2007 graduate of Pine Prairie High School where he played football and was named to Homecoming Court his senior year.
Wedlock was living in Lafayette as he was pursuing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership Curriculum and Instruction from University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Wedlock had also earned a Master’s Degree of Science in Communications from UL-L.
