VPPD arrests robbery suspect

The Ville Platte Police Department has arrested burglar suspect Abraham Chambers.
In the previous week, three businesses located in downtown Ville Platte have been robbed.
VPPD reports that on March 15, 2017 VPPD responded to the 600 block of West LaSalle Street in reference to a break in of a business. The same business was broken into a second time on March 16, 2017.
The Ville Platte Gazette identified that business as The Flower Patch, and that nearly $1,000 was stolen after the thief broke a store window to gain entry, in a story that appeared in the Sunday, March 19, 2017 edition.
VPPD further stated in a release that officers on March 17, 2017 then responded to a report of a break-in at a business also located in the 600 block of West Main Street. The following day, VPPD officers responded to yet another break-in at a business this time located in the 900 block of West LaSalle Street.
A warrant of arrest was issued for Chambers, 48, of Opelousas on the charges of burglary, theft and criminal damage to property.
On March 21, 2017 around 6 p.m. VPPD received a tip that Chambers had been dropped off at a residence in the 600 block of North Dossman street. Officers responded to the residence and was able to arrest Chambers without incident.
Chambers was charged with one count of Criminal Damage to property, one count of simple Burglary and theft ,his bond was set at 45,000.00 by Judge Gary Ortego of the 13th Judicial District court.
Chambers is also a suspect in three other Burglaries. Detectives continue to investigate the case.
