Substitute Teacher/Parent Volunteer Training Session
The Evangeline Parish School System is hosting a substitute teacher/parent volunteer training session on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, Wednesday, March 29, 2017, and Thursday, March 30, 2107. The first two sessions of the training will begin at 3:00 p.m. and end at 6:oo p.m. Thursday the training session will begin at 3:00 p.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. All three sessions fo the training must be completed. Due to bus dismissal, please arrive at least 15 minutes early.
The training will be held at Vidrine Elementary School, located at 5094 Vidrine Rd., Ville Platte. Applications are available at the EPSB Office and at www.epsb.com. The deadline to submit application and required documentations is Wednesday, March 22, 2017 by 3:00 p.m.
Prospective volunteers are expected to meet the same requirements as regular subsitutes. A letter of recommendation from school’s principal may be used in place of educational requirements. Account set up for cancer patient
An account has been set up at Evangeline Bank for dontations for Henrietta Deshotel, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.
To defray expenses, donations may be brought to Wendy Veillon Fontenot or Lorraine Fontenot at Evangeline Bank or mailed to Amy Poche at 402 North Coreil Street, Ville Platte, LA, 70586. If the donation is in the form of the check, please make the check payable to Henrietta Deshotel.
14th Annual St. Jude Trail Ride
The Sheriff’s Mounted Posse of Evangeline Parish will be hosting their annual St. Jude Trail Ride on Saturday, April 22, 2017. The ride will begin near 3375 Faubourg Rd., Washington La., at 8:30 a.m.
The fee to take part in the trail ride is $15.00 and this will include lunch.
The St. Jude silent auction will be held at lunch time. Two auction items will be an adult saddle, which was donated by Ralph $ Jeret Daigle and family, and a youth saddle, which was donated by Keith and Donna Jackson at Guillory’s Grocery in Pine Prairie. Each saddle is stamped with the St. Jude emblem. Items or monetary donations will be accepted at the event.
Overnight stay for Friday and Saturday at the Chauncey Pitre Barn will be available for people attending the event. There are no hookups at this location.
Those attending are also asked to not bring ice chests.
All proceeds from this event will go to St. Jude Hospital.

DOJ to visit
Ville Platte Sunday
A meeting with the Department of Justice will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at the Northside Civic Center. The purpose of the visit is to gain additional insights from the community about the reforms necessary for the Ville Platte Police Department and the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office, as applies, in order to fix the problems identified in the DOJ report this past December.
Evangeline Parish Farm Bureau Annual Meeting
The 65th Evangeline Parish Farm Bureau Annual Meeting for its members is scheduled to be held on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at the Ville Platte Civic Center.
All members and spouses are invited to attend. A meal will be served. Non-members are also invited with a $5 fee for the meal.

ECAA Afterschool Youth Program
To address the social, educational and spiritual needs of our youth in our community. Evangeline Community Action Agency and St. John Baptist Church, Rev. Freddie Jack, pastor, have partnered to provide an oafterschool program to our youth to include educational enrichment, computer skills, recreational activities, interactive experiences and quarterly field trips. We are committed to instilling positive attitudes and providing knowledge and skills necessary for their intellectual, emotional, spiritual and physical development. St. John Baptist Church Food Distribution
St. John Baptist Church will be distributing food for families to qualified participants at the St. John Baptist Church Family Life Center, located at 824 W. Hickory St., on Monday, March 6th form 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

The Crowns of Glory Kingdom Girlz Rock 2017 Conference will be held form March 9th-11th at the Conerstone International Ministries, located at 2063 E. Landry St., Opelousas.
Mamou Girls Softball
Association Registration
The Mamou Girls Softball Association registraton will be March 6-7 at the Mamou Teen Center at 5 p.m.to 7 p.m.
The fee is $30 per girl. New players need to bring a copy of their birth certificate.
Jury Duty Cancelled
The matter set for Petit Jury scheduled for Monday, March 6, 2017, in Judge Chuck West’s Courtroom, Division “B” has been cancelled.
All prospective jurors do not need to report.
