Swamp Pop Reunion XII
to be held on February 27
The Louisiana Swamp Pop Museum and the City of Ville Platte are proud to announce that tickets for Swamp Pop Reunion XII are now on sale. The annual benefit dance to support and promote the Louisiana Swamp Pop Museum will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017, at the Ville Platte Northside Civic Center.
This year’s dance will feature performances from over twenty Swamp Pop Legends. In addition to the wonderful music, there will also be door prizes, a chash bar and gumbo available. Plus, each Reunion ticket includes FREE ADMIOSSION to the Swamp Pop Museum on the day of the dance. Tickets for the event are $20 each and can be purchased in Ville Platte at the Swamp Pop Museum and at KVPI Radio. Doors will open at 6 p.m. For more information, visit the museum’s Facebook page.

Ville Platte High School Family
“STEM” Night to be held on Jan. 26
Come and enjoy the evening in a pleasant and comfortable environment on Thursday, January 26 at 5:30 p.m. at Ville Platte High School. Using reading strategies to understand science task incorporating math skills will be the focus for the evening. All families are encouraged to attend. Arbor Day Celebration set
or Jan. 21 at Arboretum
Celebrate Louisiana’s Arbor Day with a day full of activities and free tree seedlings at the Louisiana State Arboretum on Saturday, January 21, 2017 from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The tree seedling give-a-way will begin after the opening ceremony at 10 am. Games, crafts, hikes and tree care and planting information will be available throughout the day. Tree seedlings to be given away include Baldcypress, Sugarberry, Spicebush, Native Sweet Pecan, Shagbark Hickory, American Snowbell, Mayhaw, Post Oak, Rusty Blackhaw, Devilwood and Parsley Hawthorn. ECCA offering energy payment assistance for qualified residents
The Evangeline Community Action Agency, Inc., which is an equal opportunity employer, is announcing the availability of funds dedicated to assist eligible low income households with their energy payments. All applicantions are taken on a first come, first served basis. We will begin taking calls on Monday, January 30, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. No walk-in appointments. Account set up for cancer patient
at Evangeline Bank
An account has been set up at Evangeline Bank for dontations for Henrietta Deshotel, who was recently diagnosed with cancer. To defray expenses, donations may be brought to Wendy Veillon Fontenot or Lorraine Fontenot at Evangeline Bank or mailed to Amy Poche at 402 North Coreil Street, Ville Platte, LA, 70586. If the donation is in the form of the check, please make the check payable to Henrietta Deshotel.

Food for Families and Food for Seniors
to deliver food on Feb. 2
The Evangeline Community Action Agency and Food for Families/Food for Seniors will distribute food boxes February 2, 2017 at the following sites and times: 1 to 2 p.m. at Town Hall in Basile; 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Skating Rink in Mamou; 9 to 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Pine Prairie; 9 to 10 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Chicot; 1 to 2 p.m. at Town Hall in Turkey Creek; 1 to 2 p.m. at the Baptist Church in Lone Pine; 7:45 to 8:30 a.m. at Town Hall in Chataignier; and 7 to 9 a.m. at the Civic Center in Ville Platte.

Eunice Tennis League Registration
Registration for the Eunice Ladies Tennis League (ELTL) spring season begins Monday, Jan. 23 and concludes, Friday, Jan. 27. Registration sign-up in person is at the Mayor’s Office in Eunice City Hall between 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Or, One may call Ann at 337-363-9121 and leave a message.
Registration fee is $25, payable by check only made out to ELTL, and includes 12-weeks of league play, tennis balls and an end-of-season banquet.
Women 18-years or older with a good knowledge of the sport, including tennis court etiquette and keeping score, are eligible to join. ELTL includes all levels of play. Matches are played on every Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m. at the Eunice Fairgrounds Tennis complex.
The first date of play is Jan. 31. Players will be notified by their team captain prior to first date of play. Come join us for some tennis fun and exercise. For more information: call 337-363-9121.
EPSB Substitute Teacher Training
sessions held Jan. 24-26
The Evangeline Parish School System will be holding Substitute Teacher/Parent Volunteer Training Sessions in late January. Those dates and times are: Tuesday, Jan. 24 from 3 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 25 from 3 to 6 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 26 from 3 to 5 p.m. All three sessions of the training (8 hours) must be completed. The training will be held at Vidrine Elementary School at 5094 Vidrine Road. The deadline to submit an application and documentations is Tuesday, Jan. 17 by 3 p.m. Applications are available at EPSB Office or on www.epsb.com. St. John Baptist Church holding Women Day Program on Sunday, Jan. 22
St. John Baptist Church of Ville Platte, Pastor Freddie Jack & The Mission Department invites the public to their Annual Women Day Program on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 2 p.m. The guest speaker will be Sister Julhelene Betsy Jackson of Macedonia Baptist Church of Ville Platte. The Mohorn Baptist Church invites you to attend Mohorn Baptist Church, whose reverend is Pastor Nicholas Thomas, for a New Years event that will be held every Sunday in the month of January 2017. The event will be held during the regular church service beginning at 9:30 a.m., with Sunday School beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Due to the number of News Briefs and the limited space in The Gazette, all briefs will run as space permits. All briefs will be guaranteed one run, and after that, as space permits. All briefs must be turned in by noon on Tuesday for consideration in Thursday’s paper and by noon on Thursday for consideration in Sunday’s paper.
