There was a packed Evangeline Parish School Board meeting room on Wednesday night anxious to hear the results of the district and school’s performance scores for the 2015-16 school year.
Before superintendent Toni Hamlin delivered that news however, Chief Financial Officer Amy Lafleur informed the board and the audience that on Friday the district’s employees will receive a nice little bonus check.
Lafleur shared that professionals will receive a check for $3,247.42 and support personnel will receive $1,461.26.
When Hamlin stepped up to the podium for her second to last meeting as Evangeline Parish’s Superintendent of Schools, she proudly said, “This is one of our best years ever.”
Her statement was due to the fact that the district as a whole increased 19.5 points from a 76.3 in 2014-15 to a 95.8 last year. And, although schools were able to receive bonus points, Hamlin said, “If you take the bonus points away our district score grew 9.5 points.”
It was not only the district’s score that was impressive, but also each individual school’s performance score with seven schools moving up an entire letter grade.
The district had six schools that received an A, which were: Basile High School, who scored a 101.2; Mamou High School (100.9); Pine Prairie High School (101.7); Vidrine Elementary (101.6); James Stephens Montessori (101.8); and W.W. Stewart (101.7).
There were four schools that received a B, which were: Bayou Chicot Elementary, who scored a 88.9; Chataignier Elementary (93); Mamou Elementary (90.9); and Ville Platte High (88.8). There was one school to receive a C, which was Ville Platte Elementary, who earned themselves a 74.4.
There was no grade received for Evangeline Central due to the fact that the alternative school did not have enough students participating in the Louisiana Assessment.
Other items approved at the meeting were:
• Name Kelli Lafleur as the district’s new Special Education Supervisor.
